The United Kingdom Prepared to Utilize Frozen Russian Holdings to Finance the Ukrainian War Effort

The United Kingdom is ready to advance with using the total value of frozen Russia's holdings to bolster the Ukrainian war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a collective announcement, the officials of the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this unified step would increase strain on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to come to the table.

They clarified that the initiative would be implemented in strong partnership with the America.

British restrictions have immobilized over £25bn of Russian assets since Moscow initiated its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, up to this point, funds provided to Ukraine using Russia's funds had solely been drawn from earnings and returns generated on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their desire to drive progress toward employing the total worth of the frozen Russian sovereign holdings to end the war.

He noted that further restrictions over the next period would increase the strain on Moscow.

This announcement is subsequent to European Union officials met in the Danish capital previously to debate utilizing immobilized Russian holdings for a €140bn credit to Ukraine.

In the previous month, American leader Donald Trump called on G7 allies to confiscate or otherwise use seized Russia's holdings, according to reports.

The value of immobilized Russian funds in the European Union is estimated to be almost €211bn.
