Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his future following a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
