Nearly 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland found themselves without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms impacted the area, generating wind gusts hitting 109km/h.

Substantial Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Homeowners observed substantial frozen pellets as large as seven centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that various areas across the state had been hit with significant hail.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams deployed to manage the widespread outages.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

Meanwhile, approximately 1,000 energy customers in Victoria also encountered energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its wettest day in 18 months.

Emergency response teams received over five hundred calls for help across the state, mostly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

• The Werribee area - experienced significant storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing area - multiple emergency calls
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 calls for assistance

During the peak on the previous day, more than 28k electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were predicted to continue along significant areas of Queensland's east this coming days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the most rainy day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential expected across various areas of both regions.

Health Warning

Public health experts warned that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, especially given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after past events where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
