'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith continues battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the nail-biting final moments of his team's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear amid the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative strike from outside the box, and his teammate immediately slammed home the deflection before charging toward the crowd to mark the goal, with fans swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an unbelievable turnaround given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win earned a fourth-round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's volley from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right flank after they changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the winger was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way the underdogs approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they understand how to manage and neutralize a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just thread a ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and focus just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly replicated that in Wales. At Orient he reunited with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at League Two Salford, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including both legs games against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

This represents a remarkable path for the player from the local area in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who used to see his father, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

His single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "This represented a extended travel and it was freezing," he recalls, grinning. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it reached a stage where I thought I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to socialize with the teammates but I'm planning to be the following person to drive independently and behind the wheel. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
