Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Regional Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a significant and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the United States has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted wreckage fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
