England to Begin the European Championship 2028 Campaign at the Etihad Stadium

The English squad will commence their Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they achieve the relatively straightforward qualification for a competition taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not staged an England men’s fixture since May 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to stage the national team for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.

England are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, if they top the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would be held at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Kickoff and Rally

The championship was launched at an ceremony in central London on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were heckled as they arrived the site by about 50 protesters, who demanded the Israeli team to be kicked out from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were displayed with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Schedule

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a match that will include Wales if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.

It is expected that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will cater to families and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.

Participating Countries

The Ireland are due to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will take part in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the qualification path.

Venues and Playoffs

Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals played at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a host city last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.

Leadership Comment

“The event will be a championship for the supporters and a showcase of everything we value about the game – its emotion and power to bring people together.”

Over 3 million tickets, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be offered to supporters.
