Adult Swim's Premier New Show of This Year Secures a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
